New app feature encourages agents to reach out

The Real Care App – the real estate industry’s free tool to support better mental wellness and peak performance – has launched new updates that makes it easy to share the app with a friend and provide help.

The Forward to a Friend feature automatically suggests text and generates a link that can be shared via SMS message or  messaging apps making it easy for agents and property managers to offer support when they suspect a friend is not okay.

RiSE director and Principal of Innovation and Industry at CoreLogic, Sarah Bell, said the new feature had the potential to save lives.

“We’ve all had times in our lives when we know a colleague, friend or family member just isn’t quite right,” Sarah said.

“We either don’t say something for fear of making it worse or don’t know what to say, or when we do try to raise it, the person will say they are ‘fine’ – or all three!

“The Forward to a Friend feature gives a direct link to download the app together with a warm message that is supportive but not intrusive. So it shares with them the fact that you care, that you’ve noticed and gives them access to a powerful tool they can explore privately but which offers very real help.”

The ReVive Research into mental health in real estate reveals 47% of real estate agents experience physical symptoms of stress and anxiety, 42% often feel overwhelmed at work and 30% have experienced burnout at work, demonstrating how much the Real Care app is needed in the industry. The app has won three separate industry awards.

The latest update of the Real Care App also makes it easier to find the free counselling sessions available through the app thanks to the Domain Employee Assistance Program – EAP – service.

New director at the Rise Initiative and Head of Customer Solutions at Domain, Angus Ferguson, said anyone working in the industry has access to three free and confidential phone counselling sessions with trained mental health professionals through the app.

“The changing real estate market coming off the back of the intensity of Covid is creating real stress and pressure in the industry yet sadly the figures show that one in 10 of those working in the industry feel they have no-one to talk to when they need help,” Angus said.

“Domain is pleased and proud to extend our EAP to the industry. It means having a trained counsellor to talk to is as easy as a phone call, regardless of who you work for, how big your office is, or where you’re located.”

All contact with the Domain EAP counsellors are completely confidential and are accessed via phone. Callers need to advise that they are a Domain agent to access the services.

“The combination of being able to share the app with a friend, and connect them to counselling support gives everyone in real estate an extremely powerful tool for those times when they notice that a colleague or friend is not okay and we encourage everyone in the industry to download the app and put it to use,,” Sarah said.

The Real Care app is part of the Rise Initiative, the mental wellness charity for the real estate industry. It includes a range of tools to help agents and property managers deal with stress and anxiety and better manage their mental wellness. Real Care can be downloaded on Apple or Android phones. It is completely free.

Real Care and Rise Initiative are supported by Domain, Macquarie, MRI Software and CoreLogic.
